Privacy
MovieSteem is a movie club, not a data business. Here is everything we keep, why, and how to make it disappear.

Signing in
Council accounts use a one-time sign-in link instead of a password. You type your email, we send a link, and tapping it signs you in on that device for up to six months. Each link works once and expires after 20 minutes. We store a scrambled fingerprint of the link and of your session, never the link itself.
What we keep
- Your email address, so we can send sign-in links and recognize your account.
- Your votes and ratings: bracket picks, face-offs, bucket ratings and your Oscar ballot, so each member gets one vote and can change it.
- Your lists: films seen, watchlist and Daily Quote streak, so they follow you to every device.
- A short activity log (for example, “pressed a verdict card”) that only you can see on My Council.
- Basic page counts: which pages get visited, with no profile attached to you.
Council emails (optional)
When you sign in, there’s a box for the Council’s picks and bracket results. It starts unticked. Tick it and we may email you a few times a month at most. Untick it any time on My Council and you’re off the list immediately.
Without an account
You can read every verdict, play the Daily Quote and use Tonight without signing in. Your lists then live only in this browser. Brackets and face-offs ask you to sign in so that every member gets exactly one vote.
Who handles it
The site runs on Cloudflare. Sign-in emails are delivered by an email provider that sends them on our behalf and doesn’t use them for anything else. Trailers play from YouTube, which has its own privacy policy.
Your controls
- Download everything we hold about you from My Council → Account.
- Turn emails off from My Council → Account.
- Delete your account from My Council → Account. Your email, votes, lists and activity are erased.
